Border den's

21 days!

The puppies are now three weeks old.
Their eyes and ears are fully open, and they’re growing fast! This also means they can start exploring the world.

Paul and his family were our first visitors, and one of the females will be joining them when the time comes.

I also let them go in the garden for a bit.

We’ve also already visited our friends at the Kennel Club of Lobbes twice.

They were served their first “meal” other than Kaïa’s milk.

They started playing with each other and with the provided toys.

And playing hide&seek?

14 days!

The puppies are now 14 days!
Eyes are starting to open and they are trying hard to get on 4 legs :).

My brother also came to visit, and the cat was a bit jealous.

And yesterday, it was my sister and my 5-month-old niece.

They are here!

In the night between the 23rd and the 24th of August, the 4 puppies from Kaïa and Maïky were born. 3 females and one male at first. The work started around 23:50.

Quickly, 4 puppies came to life.

Sadly, one puppy was clearly stuck inside. At first, he was moving a bit, so we waited. But around 3:30 a.m, he had stopped moving and Kaïa’s contractions had ceased for a long time. I called the emergency vet, who confirmed what I already feared: Kaïa needed to be seen immediately.

An X-ray revealed a large puppy that could not move forward and an ultrasound showed that it’s alive but even if Kaïa still had contractions, it was unlikely Kaïa could deliver him naturally. The risk of losing the mother is unacceptable, and a caesarean was performed to deliver the last puppy.

After a little more than an hour, the vet brought Kaïa back to us. She was so happy to be reunited with her puppies. sadly, the last puppy was weak, he’s not eating and struggled to move.

Back home, we tried all of Saturday and through the night until 4 a.m. Sunday to feed him and keep him going. But between 4 and 5 a.m., he passed away. When I woke to try feeding him again, I found he was no longer breathing.
